Customs Revenue in H1 2024 in Kurdistan Region Hits 1 Trillion IQD
The Kurdistan Region’s customs points generated 1.015 trillion Iraqi Dinars (IQD) in the first half of 2024, according to a recently released joint Iraqi and Kurdistan Region financial audit report.
Ibrahim Khalil customs point in Duhok province remains the dominant revenue generator, collecting 626.89 billion IQD – approximately 62% of total revenue.
The audit identified Germian (Sulaimani) and Haji Omran (Erbil), both border crossings with Iran as the second and third highest-earning points, contributing 126.22 billion IQD and 123.53 billion IQD respectively.
The report highlights significant revenue disparities across the region’s 13 customs points. While the top three locations account for 86% of all collections, smaller points such as Mergasur (Erbil) which is a border point with Turkey, collected just 0.20 billion IQD during the same period.
By province, Duhok leads with 636.36 billion IQD (62.7%), followed by Sulaimani with 223.97 billion IQD (22.0%) and Erbil with 143.69 billion IQD (14.1%).
Airport customs facilities in Erbil and Sulaimani jointly generated 35.29 billion IQD, reflecting the growing importance of air transport for regional trade.
This indicates that customs revenue alone generates nearly 170 billion dinars monthly. Customs represents just one of several non-oil revenue sources in the Kurdistan Region, with taxes being another major contributor.
