Map of Iranian Kurdish Groups’ Camps and Military Outposts in the Kurdistan Region – Status as of June 2025:

PJAK is based in the mountainous areas along the Iranian border. Their presence is not limited to military outposts—they are also believed to facilitate some cross-border smuggling, including aiding the PKK over the years, including smuggling parts for anti-drone systems and revenue through trade.

The KDPI and Komala previously maintained small outposts along the Halgourd mountains near the Iranian border, but all have since been evacuated. These positions have either been taken over by the Iraqi Border Police or filled by the PKK.

The KDPI retains some of its lighter weapons, with many members reportedly relocated to Khalifan, although a number plus most of the families still remain in Koya.

The Komala factions have all been moved to Surdash camp, where they were more thoroughly disarmed. One of the reasons for this was internal conflict, frequent clashes between the three Komala factions effectively triggered a deeper disarmament process due to their internal civil war.

PAK forces were largely relocated to Bahirka camp but continue to keep all their weapons under KDP protection. Given the group’s small size, many of its fighters were previously stationed in Perde but were relocated following the Iraq-Iran security agreement in 2023.
